1. It stimulates the immune system.
Meditation on a regular basis act as a natural antioxidant, increasing blood flow and helping the body get rid of free radicals.
2.Make your heart happy.
Meditation slows down the heart rate and breathing rate and increases blood flow to the heart, which is believed to have a positive effect on cardiovascular health. Meditation has also been shown to lower blood pressure and reduce stress, two factors that contribute to heart health.
3. Increase creativity.
Tranquility, calm, and concentration can help liberate your inner artist. It’s no wonder then that a few years ago, when the Disney company was at a creative crossroads, they called in meditation teacher, expert therapist and author of Wise Mind, Open Mind, Ron Alexander. Alexander worked at the company for two years to hone his creative vision, which eventually led to the opening of its theme centers in Hong Kong, Tokyo and Paris.
4. Build trust.
Meditation can help you look into the sunny side of life by improving your self-esteem and reducing fears or phobias. The exact reasons for this are not yet known, but they may be due to increased serotonin levels and the ability to overcome inner conflict through introspection.
5. It helps you help others.
Many of us are regular helpers. We put the needs of others ahead of our own, sometimes at the expense of our own. When we take the time to cultivate our own inner peace, we can see that benefit passed on to those around us. We are calmer with our partners and children, kinder to our friends and generally more pleasant.
Try it yourself
Meditation can sometimes seem like an insurmountable goal. Who has the time to sit for hours each day? The good news is that you don’t have to practice for hours to see the benefits. In fact, brief snippets throughout the day can provide the same benefits as a longer practice.
The first steps can be as simple as starting with a few minutes in the morning before getting in the shower. Find a quiet corner in your house and try to make it a little special by adding a cushion or a candle. By entering this space, you will know that it is time to keep your mind focused.
Explore different types of meditation. Many of the new meditators get caught up in wondering if they are “doing it right.” If you stop trying to evaluate your technique you will find that you are better able to embrace the moment.
Guided meditations are a great way to relieve pressure by letting someone guide you through the practice. Find a teacher or buy a book that offers a good meditation guide.
